The 2021 Miami University Libraries Copyright Conference, being held September 28 through October 1 on Miami University’s Oxford, Ohio campus focuses on the intricacies of U.S. copyright law and its impact on libraries and academia.

Registration for the event will open in March of 2021.

The tentative conference schedule can be found below. Please note that this schedule is subject to change. A finalized schedule will be published in February 2021.

All conference programming will be held in Miami University’s Shriver Center, located at 701 E Spring St, Oxford, OH 45056.

Copyright Boot Camp To Be Announced (TBA) This session will provide attendees with an overview of the basics of U.S. copyright law that all librarians should be familiar with.

Defining a Process for your Copyright Review Project Presented by Kristina Hall and Heather Shoecraft This hands-on workshop will guide you through the process of scoping a copyright review project particularly designed for achieving results when your staff or student workers don’t have a legal background. We will explain how to condense a review into bite size questions, find research resources to support your project, and put it all together into a teachable sequence.

Case Law Discussion Group Presented by Justin Bonfiglio, Raven Lanier, & Yuanxiao Xu Facilitators will lead a discussion focused on a recent copyright case. For anyone interested in participating in the discussion, a set of readings will be shared with the group approximately one month in advance of the conference. Participants are encouraged to bring their own questions to the discussion — please come prepared for an active exchange!
